History

Midas was a self-made entrepreneur with connections to the clandestine Maker's Council, a cabal composed of the various world leaders of the seven super-nations that constituted the world and exerted significant influence over society. In addition, he was a member in good standing of the Hellfire Club, an organization that originally included several of the Founding Fathers of the former United States.[1]

In 1963, Midas assumed control of the White House as a result of an agreement with the extra-dimensional Maker to assassinate United States President John F. Kennedy on November 22 of that same year. Over the course of several decades, he maintained a close relationship with the Maker and his associates. Eventually, he discovered a young woman from the distant future who had been exposed to significant quantities of cosmic radiation. He exploited her for financial gain, conducting research on her technology and body, as well as utilizing her as an energy source situated beneath the White House. By 2024, following Howard Stark's betrayal of the Maker and the ensuing availability of Stane/Stark's corporate assets, Midas would seize the opportunity to appropriate the original Iron Man armor and repurpose it as a collector's item to wear.[1]

On July 4, 2024, during an assault on the White House by the resistance network known as the Ultimates, led by Captain America, Midas would endeavor to breach a negotiated agreement between himself and the superheroes, while attempting to persuade them of the merits of his vision of the world. This strategy, however, proved to be ineffective, and he proceeded to engage in combat with the duo of Iron Lad and the Captain. His armor, which was powered by cosmic radiation, proved to be a formidable weapon against them until Iron Lad would break the grounds through his Uni-Bream Ray, leading everyone to fall into the basement. As the battle continued, Midas proved to be on the winning side, however the Wasp would manage to liberate the prisoner greatly weakening Midas' defenses, and would be incapacitated by the Captain after a single blow would break his neck.[1]
