Quote1 It's not your fault. You have a choice, Liz. You can remain here, wallowing in your failures. Misery. Or...you can become the Misery. Quote2
Misery[src]

History

Misery is a hybrid symbiote created as part of Alchemax's experiments weaponizing "strains" of the various symbiotes they had captured. Noting that the Carnage symbiote strain they had obtained refused to amalgamate with any of the others, Doctor Steven and Liz Allan exposed a sample of it bonded to a chimpanzee named Grace to Anti-Venom serum. When terminally-ill Guardsman Corwin Jones went AWOL, having been hired by the Life Foundation to steal all of Alchemax's symbiotes, Liz was exposed to a sample of the hybrid symbiote, which bonded to her.[1]

Grace, her symbiotes having stabilized into a copy of the Misery symbiote, attempted to kill Liz in an attempt to avenge the experiments performed on her, but was subdued and recaptured. After experimenting with her new powers, which included a greatly enhanced healing factor and the ability to liquify and reform her body, Liz confronted Corwin in his apartment only to discover he had bonded to all of the stolen symbiotes to create a single massive hybrid called Madness.[2]
