Synopsis for "Furious Female"
Black Fury, later renamed Miss Fury, was one of Bell Syndicate's Sunday comics feature (April 6th, 1941 to 1952). Young socialite Marla Drake is a vigilante wearing an African witch doctor's ceremonial robes, fighting against Nazis like evil General Bruno Beitz - and, after 1945, against gangsters and scientists. Fury was created by Tarpe Mills, a female comic-book author who started working in 1938 for Centaur Comics and, although she also created Jaxon of the Jungle, Diane Deane of Hollywood, Daredevil Barry Finn and the Purple Zombie, failed to give her popularity.
Famously, one of her 1947 comics was rejected by 37 newspapers due to the main character showing too much skin.
