History

1989[]

In 1989, Mitchell Carson was Head of Defense at S.H.I.E.L.D..[1][2]

When Dr. Hank Pym found out that S.H.I.E.L.D. had been trying to replicate the Pym Particles from Ant-Man's Suit, he confronted Carson along with Director Carter and Howard Stark. During this meeting, Carson insulted Dr. Pym and mentioned Pym's deceased wife Janet van Dyne, at which point Hank punched him and quit S.H.I.E.L.D.[1]

Carson insisted that Pym would be imprisoned so S.H.I.E.L.D. could obtain his work, but Stark and Carter prevented this to happen.[2]

Modern Days[]

Years later, Carson allied himself with Hydra[2] and attended at Pym Technologies to the unveiling of Darren Cross's Yellowjacket Suit,[1] offering 20 percent above asking price.[2]

After Ant-Man infiltrated the Avengers Facility, Carson increased his offer to twice the asking price for the Yellowjacket Suit.[2]

Two weeks after Cross accepted Carson's offer but decided to keep the size-altering formula for himself, and while Carson and a small group of Hydra agents were inspecting the prototype, Cross had Dr. Pym and Hope Van Dyne brought in. They had been trying to prevent the deal from happening, and their associate Scott Lang was similarly trapped while undertaking his part of their plan using Dr. Pym's old Ant-Man's Suit. Carson was openly scornful of his old associate, but his triumphant attitude was cut short when Lang broke free and attacked the assembled group. During the confusion, Carson escaped with the Pym Particle serum.[1][2]
