Mongibel, previously known as Castle Le Fay, is a magical stronghold deeply tied to Morgan Le Fay and her long history of sorcery, rebellion, and power struggles within Avalon.

History

Castle Le Fay originally resided in southern Avalon,[2] nestled in the land of Gorre beyond the Valley of Wailing Mists, a day’s ride from Camelot. It served as both the home and prison of Morgan Le Fay. Due to her repeated efforts to incite wars and unrest, Merlyn cursed Morgan to remain within the castle walls under enduring spells, ensuring her death should she ever leave.[3][4]

From her confinement, Morgan projected her astral form across time, searching for a way to escape.[4][5] During these efforts, Doctor Doom visited her through time travel to learn the lost Dark Arts.[6][7]

The castle was later targeted by the Manchester Gods, who sought to destroy it as one of Otherworld's critical place of power.[8] Although it was eventually rebuilt, Morgan abandoned it after becoming Queen Regent of Avalon during King Arthur's absence, relocating her base of operations to Camelot.[9]

Castle Le Fay, shrunk

Taking advantage of the vacancy, an unknown party magically shrank Castle Le Fay and transported it to the Crooked Market, where it was sold to the reality-bending mutant Mad Jim Jaspers. Doctor Doom, seeking an artifact belonging to Morgan, struck a deal with Jaspers and acquired the miniature castle. He relocated it to Latveria, using it as part of a bargain to gift the Waters of Otherworld from Morgan’s scrying pool to Captain Britain.[10]

In time, Doom returned the castle—now renamed Mongibel—to Morgan Le Fay, aligning with her in a scheme to antagonize Captain Britain. With the assistance of Monarch, the castle was relocated to British soil—a gesture meant to atone for Monarch’s prior mistreatment of Morgan during his brief reign as King of Avalon.[11]
