Synopsis for "An Angel Felled"

While reflecting on a picture of his late wife, Gabriel is interrupted by Desadia who tells him that their next case involves the demonic possession of a man who is already dead. They leave Gabriel's office unaware that the picture of his late wife (smashed on the floor following Dasadia's abrupt entry) is bleeding out of its eyes.

Traveling to the Bronx, they visit the home of the Ramirez family. Mrs. Ramirez tells them that she was startled one morning when the body of her husband (dead three years) was sleeping next to her after years of praying to get him back. When Gabriel confronts the body (which is muttering in Latin) it springs to life with demonic fury. Gabriel ushers Desadia and Mrs. Ramirez out of the room so he can preform the exorcism.

As Gabriel deals with the demons' taunts and illusions (even going so far as taking on the form of his late wife), Desadia explains to Mrs. Ramirez how Gabriel's wife was possessed by a demon and forced to commit suicide, and how Gabriel was later possessed by the same demon who made him tear out one of his own eyes.

Gabriel snaps and lashes out on the body physically, prompting Desadia and Mrs. Ramirez to enter the room. They are shocked to find that the body has disappeared. Gabriel demands that Mrs. Ramirez take them to where her husband was buried. Taken to the graveyard, Gabriel tells the women to leave him alone to do his work. Shortly, the demon (still possessing Mr. Ramirez's corpse) bursts from the grave and attacks Gabriel. During their fight, Gabriel's shirt is burned off, revealing the cross. It gives off a light which signals the heavens. A bolt of lightning strikes a nearby statue causing it to fall on the demon-possessed corpse, crushing it and banishing the demon.

Rejoining Desadia, he sees that Mrs. Ramirez didn't heed his warnings and tried to witness the battle and the horror she saw stopped her heart.

Prior to returning home to their office, the death certificate of Gabriel's late wife suddenly bursts into flames. When they do return, Gabriel tells Desadia that he'd like to be alone with his (new) wife.
