Synopsis for "High Strangers, Book Three: Mind Maze"
Chapter 1: Doubled Down
"Marlene" attacked Steven, revealed that she was actually a tulpa, and claimed that she wouldn't stand for any other women in his life before she suddenly recovered her senses.
Chapter 2: Back to Normal Back
When Moon Knight looked for the tulpa, he found Marlene, who had no memory of what just happened. Then, when he told her to turn around, there was no Red Dragon mark on her back. He also told her that she had a double and to research "tulpa" in the files from Candy before he went to the site of the murder rituals alone.
Chapter 3: Evidence of Consequence
Marlene wondered what a tulpa was while Moon Knight dropped by a warehouse.
Chapter 4: Blinded by the Light of Jacob's Ladder
As Moon Knight was entering through a roof, Marlene was blinded by a light.
Chapter 5: The Invisible Dragon
In the warehouse, Moon Knight took pictures of graffiti that included the symbols he previously saw on the crop circles and on the skull and he deduced that the victims are some of the street people used in Rosslyn's mind control experiments. Meanwhile, still blinded by the light, Marlene was begging someone not to take her before Moon Knight and Frenchie returned and saw it.
Chapter 6: The Oz Factor
When Moon Knight saw Marlene on the rooftop of their mansion, she told him that there were owls with huge eyes and they "took her into their eyes" but that there was just vast blackness and that it was all she remembered. Then, she told him that she would research tulpas.
Chapter 7: Mind Candy
Moon Knight told Frenchie to tell Samuels to develop the film he just shot and he called Candy and told her that she may be "twins." Candy told Marc that they might be the explanation for ghosts and that they were supposedly thought-form entities and exact duplicates of persons living or dead but she also suspected that they might not be physically real and just be some kind of implanted hallucination in his case and that they've already gotten to his mind and possibly Marlene's. Marc told her about how Marlene mentioned "owls with huge eyes" and Candy told him that she's seen them too but that they were the ones who put the implant in her head and that she might be controlled. When Marc asked Candy who they were, she told him that they were aliens.
Chapter 8: Cosmic Conspiracy
Candy said that it could have been both actual aliens or a company trick and spoke of a rumor that a deal was struck between aliens and top-level intelligence agents, possibly the Red Dragon Group, that involved allowing the abduction of humans in exchange for supposedly receiving "exotic technology."
Chapter 9: Resarch Results
Marc told Candy to give him the address of a hypnotherapist named William Tryon and to tell him to expect them. Later, Marlene told Steven that if a tulpa attacked him, then someone dreamed up another her as a nightmare for him. She also told him that tulpas were created by sheer willpower, that it was a process supposedly perfected by "the twelve secret rulers of the world" who were said to live in the Tibetan Himalayas, and that the occultist Aleister Ravenna, also known as the Red Dragon, claimed he could produce a replica of himself, allowing himself to appear in two places at once. Then, Steven and Marlene left to see Tryon.
Chapter 10: Regressed to the Future
Steven observed as Tryon put Marlene in a deep hypnotic state and had her feel relaxed. Tryon told Marlene to tell him what she was really seeing and she saw owls before seeing small figures with big gray heads, no ears, almost no nose, and huge wraparound black eyes, while Steve was looking through the names and numbers that Tryon had written down.
Chapter 11: Grey Matters
Marlene was seeing aliens and they left with her in a spaceship, put her on a table, and inserted a probe into her brain, claiming that they needed to be in her mind and know where she was at all times, so they could find her again. Meanwhile, Steven found Lin-Rose Research's number in Tryon's office and deduced that he had a connection to the company. Then, Steven ordered Tryon to bring her out of the trance and refused to pay a bill.
Chapter 12: Reality Checks and Balances
At the Grant Mansion, Marlene told Steven that what she saw seemed so real and he told her that he was still suspecting mind control. Steven suspected that their mansion was compromised and that when he was drugged at Lin-Rose Research, they could have forced him to talk. Then, Samuels came to him with the film developed into photos.
Chapter 13: Suddenly Visible
In the photos of the symbols in the warehouse, Moon Knight noticed that Aleister Ravenna looked exactly like he did in Candy's sixty-year-old photos and was also surprised that he was there because he remembered being alone. He told Samuels to watch Marlene while he was gone.
Chapter 14: Here There be Monsters
Detective Flint found Marc an address for the Lin-Rose Research number he found in Tryon's office and it was an estate in Westchester that belonged to Dr. Isaac Rosslyn.
Chapter 15: Brotherhood of Dragons
At the estate, Ravenna had Candy chained to a surface and ordered Rosslyn to plunge a dagger into her heart in order to conduct a ritual. However, Rosslyn hesitated and Ravenna received a phone call about Moon Knight, although Ravenna said that a satellite was locking onto an implant in Moon Knight's head and was bombarding him. Moon Knight still closed in on Ravenna and broke into the estate, defeating all but one of the Red Dragon Group members present.
Chapter 16: Silver Bug
He chased one of the members outside and was surprised to see a flying saucer in the sky.
