History

Morag was the first recorded Kree leader. He was present when the first Skrull ship landed on Hala and the Skrull Emperor Dorrek offered to give their technology to either the Kree or the Cotati, depending on who proved their worth. He was also part of the group of seventeen Kree taken to the Blue Area of Earth's Moon where they used rudimentary Skrull technology to construct a huge blue city to prove their worth.

After a year's time, the group was returned to Hala, where they learned that the Skrulls were likely to name the Cotati the winners because they had turned their barren moon into a lush garden. Angered, Morag led a group of Kree against the Cotati, killing them all in the night. The next morning, Morag informed the Skrull party of how the Kree had eliminated their competition. When the appalled Dorrek declared that Hala would never become one of their favored worlds, Morag immediately led his men in slaughtering all of the Skrulls as well, beginning the eons long Kree-Skrull War.[1]

Notes

  • Over the years, the skin color of Morag and the other Kree from the distant past has varied.
    • Morag and his fellows were initially depicted as pink-skinned Kree in Avengers #133 but this was because "the colorist blew it."[3] Two months later, in Captain Marvel #38, Morag and the ancient Kree were depicted as a blue-skinned race, like they always should have been.
    • When panels from Avengers #133 were reprinted in Marvel Saga the Official History of the Marvel Universe #9, the primitive Kree were recolored so that they were all blue-skinned.
    • However, when a panel from Avengers #133 was used in Skrulls! #1, the correction was not made so Morag and his fellows were again depicted as being pink-skinned.
    • Most recently, both Road to Empyre: The Kree/Skrull War #1 and Empyre: Avengers #0 have continued to depict Morag as a pink-skinned Kree. However, these stories also established that the ancient Kree people did not all have the same color skin. Instead of being either all blue-skinned or all pink-skinned, Morag's people were a mixture of blue-skinned and pink-skinned Kree.
      • In Royals #5, it is revealed that the pink skinned Kree came as a result of the Progenitors' experiments on the primitive Kree, explaining how both varieties of Kree could coexist in the past.
