History

The Blandings were a happy family until one day their son Todd died in a car accident. His parents were devastated by their loss, leading them to adopt 13-year old Alex Summers from an orphanage. Due to grief, Mrs. Blanding sometimes treated Alex as Todd and then felt guilt for it. She and her husband repeatedly stated that they loved Alex for who he is, and tried not to treat him as just a replacement for their dead son.

• Name "Joanna" was never used in any source materials. She was not named in her only appearance in X-Factor #-1 and Havok's handbook entries in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe: X-Men 2004 #1 and Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z #5 list her as "Mrs. Blanding".
