History

Before history was written, the Wyrm of Desolation attacked Ta-Lo to kill the Taoist Gods. Muzha and his fellow Xian fought against the Wyrm, who was ultimately defeated when his youngest brother Nezha sealed him in a pocket dimension with his Universe Ring. Despite his defeat, the Wyrm slowly corrupted Nezha's spirit and corrupted him. When Nezha brought destruction to Ta-Lo under the Wyrm's influence, the Jade Emperor ordered Muzha and their brother Jinzha to kill him. After Nezha's death, the Emperor shattered the Universe Ring into twelve pieces and scattered them across several dimensions to prevent the Wyrm's release. When ten of the Rings returned to Ta-Lo, the Emperor had them kept in his armory, only using them for the direst of situations.[1]

In the present day, the Jade Emperor bequeathed the Ten Rings to Shang-Chi due to a prophecy that warned of an incoming threat to Earth that could only be stopped by an Earthly Ring-Keeper. When Shang-Chi struggled with the burden of wielding the Rings, the other Gods wanted to relieve him of them but Jiang Lie convinced the Emperor to have Muzha and Jinzha host a Game of Rings to confirm Shang-Chi's worthiness.[2] Muzha and Jinzha watched from Ta Lo as MI6 and Tink nearly summoned the Wyrm of Desolation with the Ten Rings, noting how strange the West was for determining a weapon's true own by placing it in a rock. The two watched Leiko Wu get possessed by a Wyrmspawn and noted that something had to be done before the whole Wyrm would escape again. The brothers wondered why the Jade Emperor would bequeath the Ten Rings to Shang-Chi, whom they deemed unworthy of wielding them, believing that the Emperor had acted rashly. Regardless, the two abided by the Emperor's orders to host a Game of Rings but they wanted to identify a Ring Keeper by their own terms.[3]

The brothers summoned Shang-Chi and nine other players to the Meritorious Striving Pagoda to participate in the Game of Rings and explained the tournament's rules to them. When Shang-Chi refused to participate as the Ten Rings belonged to him, Jinzha asked why he was afraid of wielding them, prompting Shang-Chi to reluctantly abide as Muzha further explained the rules.[4]

During the second round of the tournament, the brothers invited the remaining participants to seek them out at their campfire in the White Level as a bonus. Shang-Chi and Shen Kuei managed to reach Muzha and Jinzha, who revealed the history of the Ten Rings to them.[1]

When Shang-Chi was the only player remaining, he pleaded with Muzha and Jinzha to heal Shen Kuei. Impressed that Shang-Chi would choose save his opponent instead of taking his Rings, the brothers honored his request and sent Shen Kuei back to his home dimension. Muzha and Jinzha proudly watched on as Shang-Chi was declared the true Ring-Keeper by Jiang Li and the Jade Emperor and listened when the Emperor revealed his motives for entrusting the Ten Rings with Shang-Chi.[2]
