History
Myrina was the queen of the Amazon nation over twenty thousand years ago,[1][2] during the Pre-Cataclysmic Age.[3]
The decadent empire of Atlantis hired her and her Amazons to root out a nest of Gorgons in the Western Peaks of Atlantis. Myrina took many Gorgons as captive and integrated them into the Amazon nation. Myrina left Atlantis but left a garrison behind, which was slain by the Atlantean sorcerous rulers to avoid payment, thus earning the Amazons' hatred (that went on to this day). Fearing the Amazons' wrath, they tried to harness a fraction of the power of the Axis Mundi into the Omphalos, causing the Great Cataclysm[1][4] or rather furthering it.[2]Notes
- Myrina was a queen of the Amazons mentioned by Diodorus Siculus in Library of History.[5] The Marvel Comics' version of Myrina takes some influence on Siculus' account while setting the story in the Pre-Cataclysmic Age:
- In Library of History, Queen Myrina led a successful campaign against the Atlanteans of Libya, and a less successful conflict against the Gorgons, neighbors of the Atlantians.[5]
- In Incredible Hercules #123, Myrina is queen of the Amazons in the years before the Great Cataclysm,[1] over 20,000 years ago.[2][4] She was first opposed to the Gorgons on behalf of the the Atlanteans and were victorious, then were (concerning the Amazon garrison on Atlantis) crushed by the Atlanteans.[1][2][4]
- Though Otrera was described as the "first queen of the Amazons",[6] Myrina predates her rule.
