History

The Mysterio Avatars were a series of robotic avatars created by the Mysterio of Earth-616 to interact with Earth-1610 without leaving his home reality.[1] He used these avatars to commit multiple crimes in the alternate universe,[3][4] including the assassination of its native Kingpin.[5]

After the Spider-Man of Earth-1610 foiled his plans twice,[3][4] Mysterio ditched his avatars and tried to kill the hero with his own hands, but resumed their use after almost being subdued by Shroud.[6][7] Mysterio lost two of his avatars after that: one when he fought the Black Cat over the Zodiac Key she stole from the late Kingpin's archives,[8] and the other when he tried to kill the Spider-Man of his universe.[9]

Following his return to Earth-616 after some time imprisoned on Earth-1610, Mysterio carried on with his criminal career,[10] but did not use his avatars again ever since.

Properties

The Mysterio Avatars are robotic bodies that can be remote-controlled by their users from a virtual reality base which broadcasts on an unknown frequency. Their users can feel any damage that is inflicted upon them on their own bodies through the neural connection they share.[11]

These avatars are capable of shooting electric blasts through their hands[5][7][11] and casting illusions.[4][11] They also come equipped with guns[7][12] and prayer beads. The prayer beads emit a powerful chemical used to enhance the illusions the avatars cast.[11]

Notes

  • Though different models of avatars are seen in Mysterio's lair in Spider-Men #12, just one of them is seen being used by him to commit crimes on Earth-1610.
  • Upon coming across a destroyed Mysterio Avatar for the second time,[13] the Iron Man of Earth-1610 noted how "fascinating" its tech was. He also claimed it was "above and beyond" him before correcting himself, and saying it was actually "to the side of [him]".[11]
