Bruno has the hypnotized Jeffery lead him from Florida to a small island called Barca located in the Caribbean Sea. Once there and after having the location pointed out to him, Bruno rushes to the spot and digs it up, not listening as Jeffrey repeats the warning once spoken by Roger Blakton, that the chest was boobytrapped with explosives. While scouting in their jets, they discover the cause to be giant birds. They follow the birds until they can find a place to land to investigate further on foot. While investigating, they are confronted by Dr. Carlos Vega who discovered three eggs of the prehistoric "Awks" some time ago in the Andes Mountains and began breeding and training them. He informs the pilots that he had been directing their feeding discreetly at night to hide their presence and that he plans to use the birds to attack San Rico's small standing army to dispose of the government in order to make himself as the dictator of San Rico.
The pilots run to their jets, eluding the giant birds by escaping through narrow mountainous passages. Once back in their jets and in the air, they spot the awks again but this time they're holding Dr. Vega in their talons as he instructs them personally. The two pilots fire their rockets at the awks, seemingly killing them all, as well as Dr. Vega, who falls to his death.

Notes
- Since this comic was published over four years before Fantastic Four #1, the nation of San Rico featured in "Something Waits on the Mountain!" could not possibly have been intended to be part of the Marvel Universe. While it's unknown if writer Roy Thomas had this San Rico in mind when he created the country of the same name that appeared in X-Men #25–26, there is nothing in this story that is incompatible with them being the same country, so it has been decided to treat them as if they were.
- Additionally, since it was established in Marvel Atlas #2 that "San Rico" was actually always just an alternate name for a country whose official name was Santo Rico, this issue's San Rico has also been retconned into being Santo Rico.
- "Stormy Night!" is reprinted as "The Storm Walkers!" in Beware #7.
