Nagala was a Lemurian sorceress, the son of an unidentified father and of Palatyne, and as such a descendent and heir to Naga, and a descendent of the Elder God Set.[1] Naga had for centuries ruled Lemuria and worn the Serpent Crown, a magic item empowered by Set.[3][verification needed]

According to a prophecy, the "seventh child of Set" (meaning a seventh generation descendant) would usher in a a new golden age for the Serpent Men. By Ian McNee's calculations, the mother of that new dark prince could be either the serpentine assassin Yith, or Nagala.[1]

Opposing Namor and the surface people

Nagala helped Attuma as part of the team Deep Six in fighting off Namor the Sub-Mariner and the Defenders. She also fought Doctor Strange.[3]

Nagala successfully held off Doctor Strange with her Serpent Crown magic, but in the battle, Strange outmaneuvered the Nagala with the help of his teammates Hellcat and the Silver Surfer, and the rest of Deep Six were quickly defeated.[4]

Doctor Strange took Nagala's Serpent Crown before teleporting away, and Namor returned to the throne of Atlantis. Nagala later formed At'la'tique a group of undersea terrorists who seek to destroy air-breathers. They worked with the Fathom Five. Nagala escaped capture when Atlantean troops attacked teams former secret base.[5]

Nagala possesses the conventional attributes of Homo mermanus: gills that extract oxygen from water, superhuman physiology to withstand extreme pressures and temperatures, and acute vision. She can swim at approximately 30 miles per hour. She can remain out of water for approximately nine minutes before beginning to suffocate. However, she can operate on the surface by wearing a water-filled helmet or using a chemical that enables her to draw oxygen from the air.

Nagala wears the Serpent Crown, which provides mystical abilities.
