History

According to Atlantean myth, Nagorbu was a war-mongering inventor residing in Atlantis prior to the Great Cataclysm.

Centuries ago, Nagorbu developed a magnet that could repel human flesh in an effort to solidify the military might of Atlantis. However his ruler Tolan refused to use the weapon and ordered it to dumped into the ocean. Nagorbu still sought to use the device for his own end, and against Tolan's wishes led expeditions to try and recover the device from the ocean floor. Attempts over the centuries, even after Nagorbu's death, to recover it caused a massive flood which ultimately sank Atlantis.[1]

Notes

  • The only recorded tale of Nagorbu was told to Betty Dean by the Sub-Mariner, who admitted that he is unsure of how much truth there is to the story. While the story contradicts the known facts surrounding the Great Cataclysm, it does not discount that Nagorbu ever existed.
    • The Great Cataclysm's profile in Blockbusters of the Marvel Universe mentions that story, but states that it among a series of hypothetized causes to the Great Cataclysm, but stated to have an unrevealed, if any, influence on the event, locally or globally.
