My whole life I've either been too white for some people or too ethnic for others. And it's been very uncomfortable, sucky, in-between. So, when I first put this on, I was hoping to shut some people up, but I kinda realized I don't really need to prove anything to anybody. Like, when I put this on, I feel like me.
- —Nakia Bahadir[src]
History
Nakia was a student of Coles Academic High School and one of Kamala Khan's best friends, alongside Bruno.[2]
Nakia and Kamala were part of the same Muslim community, and, after a conversation regarding the poor conditions of the women's section at the mosque, Kamala tried to convince Nakia to run for the mosque board. Nakia wasn't keen on the idea at first, but when she realized her shoes had been stolen, she changed her mind. With Kamala and Bruno's help, she advertised her case to the board at a mosque party,[1] ultimately gaining her a spot on the board.[3]
Shortly after, she learned that Kamala was secretly the superhero Night Light that had been defending the community, and was heartbroken that her friend had kept this a secret from her.[3]Notes
- Yasmeen Fletcher portrays Nakia in the Disney+ series Ms. Marvel.
Trivia
- Unlike, her comic counterpart, Nakia is not of Turkish descent, being instead Lebanese-American.[4]
