History

The Nanda are a semi-humanoid race that originated on their homeworld Nanda, the second planet from the sun in the Particulus star system within the Milky Way galaxy.[1]

At some point in the past, after the Nanda had developed into a peaceful and technologically-advanced society, they were contacted by the Charter Federation, the largest peacekeeping organization in the Local Group of galaxies, and offered membership. The Nanda accepted and have been part of the Charter ever since.[2]

In recent years, a green-skinned Nanda female named Cymell became the captain of the single most powerful starship in the Charter Federation, the Starcruiser Nightwind.[3]

When the most recent Galactic Marathon was held, some Nanda were among the spectators in the stands on the world below the finish line, and two Nanda, one green-skinned and one blue-skinned, were among the announcers.[4]

A yellow-skinned Nanda female named D'Melza once served as her people's representative to the Charter. Ambassador D'Melza was stationed aboard the Hub, the massive star station that was the mobile headquarters of the Charter's diplomatic operations, when it came to the Solar System to offer Earth membership in the Charter. When the Earth man Quasar came to the Hub to investigate the "WE COME IN PEACE" message had been beamed from it to Earth as advance notice of the Charter's approach, D'Melza greeted him after he had entered a docking area and guided him to the office of Peacekeeper-General Mduul. D'Melza was presumably still aboard the Hub when, only hours later, Axi-Tun agents secretly released a hybrid cosmic plague that swiftly killed all of the star station's three million inhabitants, leaving Quasar as the sole survivor.[5]

Notes

  • Representatives of the Nanda race first appeared in Shogun Warriors #19-20, but no information about their species, including their name, was revealed until a quarter-page entry on them was published in the Alien Races Appendix in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe (Vol. 2) #15.
  • Most of the Nanda who have appeared in stories set in the Marvel Universe so far have had green skin, but one has had blue skin and another had yellow skin. No information has yet been revealed about how widespread these skin colors are within the overall Nanda population.
  • So far, Cymell is the only Nanda to have been depicted as having any hair (aside from eyebrows and eyelashes) on their heads.
  • Although the text for the Nanda entry states that they have three toes on each foot, the Nanda in the accompanying image was depicted as having four toes.
