History

The National Force was a neo-Nazist organization masterminded by Doctor Faustus, whose goal was to create racial tensions in Manhattan as part of a plan to enslave its population by use of a mind-altering gas. Faustus brainwashed the Captain America of the 1950s, William Burnside, and turned him into the "Grand Director", the leader of the National Force. He also brainwashed S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Sharon Carter into joining the group, and eventually convinced her to commit suicide, but she luckily survived. Captain America was also temporarily brainwashed, but was freed with help from Daredevil. In the end, the two heroes were able to thwart Faustus' scheme, while William Burnside committed suicide (and apparently died) rather than fight the original Captain America.[1]

In the aftermath of the Civil War and the (apparent) death of Captain America, the National Force was resurrected by a third incarnation of the Hate-Monger, who specifically targeted Mexican illegal immigrants. This latest version of the group was equipped with wrist-worn flamethrowers, hovering motorcycles and carriers, cybernetic coyotes, and a machine for generating the hate-ray, used to instill even more hatred and aggression in its members. The Hate-Monger was apparently killed by The Punisher, but was later revealed to be alive when he and his followers activated a madbomb in Symkaria, and were stopped by the combined efforts of Captain Marvel, Captain America, the Vision, and Black Panther.[2][3]
