The Netherlands, officially the Kingdom of the Netherlands. It is a small country located in Western Europe with three island territories in the Caribbean Sea The largest and capital city is Amsterdam, while The Hague holds the Dutch seat of government and parliament. The port of Rotterdam is the largest port in Europe.

17th Century

In 1623 A.D. New Amsterdam was settled by the Dutch. These immigrants were greeted by time-traveler Wolf Turber a robot from the future of Earth-TRN215 who sought to conquer the Earth. He attempted to subvert the Dutch immigrants in 1649 to his cause, but they saw through his duplicity and chased him away. The province would remain a Dutch possession until 1674 when it came under the control of the English and renamed New York.[1]

Captain Joost van Straaten was the captain of a ship that lusted only for treasure and was consumed with greed. He had no compassion for life, only wealth. He forced his crew into a storm to find treasure and the ship was overtaken by the raging sea. He and all his crew perished. When they met with Death, his crew's souls were allowed to rest but he was not. He was named the Flying Dutchman and sent to Limbo.[2]

19th Century

After Napoleon's fall, Belgium was given to William of Orange to be part of the Kingdom of the Netherlands.[3]

After the Belgians revolted against the Kingdom of the Netherlands in 1830, they finally became an independent nation, as a constitutional monarchy led by Leopold Saxe-Coburg.[3]

Dutch; Professor Abraham van Helsing the legendary monster hunter during the mid to late 1800s, frequently clashed with Vlad Dracula, the king of all Vampires.[4] He, at some point, met the ancient mutant Apocalypse and mistook him for a vampire because of his appearance.[5]

20th Century

World War II

In 1939, freighter captain Barney Mullen avoided Nazi ships in order to deliver a shipment of gold bullion to the city of Rotterdam.[6]

Cold War

In 1955, Secret Service Agent Rick Davis was active in the province of Holland, where he stopped a Communist plot to flood the American market with counterfeit currency.[7]

Modern Era

Victor von Doom was incarcerated in the Hague after killing Susan Storm.[8] In his cell, Doom felt the Marquis of Death's arrival.[9]

James Rhodes was on trial at The Hague for crimes against humanity after he destroyed facilities in Santo Marco.[10]

In a fight between Doctor Doom and the Thing, Doom teleported him away. The Thing found himself in the balcony of an apartment in Amsterdam, with a note attached to its door. In the note, Victor gifts the apartment to Ben as a token, urging him to take a vacation.[11]
