Synopsis for "The Wind Knows My Name"

In Caracas, Miranda Mantega bought a bracelet for her daughter Sofia before she was caught in the middle of a riot, resulting in her death. Nearby, Sofia and her cousin were playing with a kite, while using her powers when her uncle Paolo learned that Miranda had been killed. Sofia cried as she heard their conversation through her wind-based powers.

At Miranda's funeral, Sofia overheard that Paolo chose not to take care of her and contacted her father in America, instead. After taking a plane to Denver, she met her father Walter Barrett, who took her inside of his limo and ordered her to learn English before school starts, get good grades, and never use her powers.

Three weeks later, in January, she went to her new school, where her classmates jeered at her.

In May, on her sixteenth birthday, Derek offered to take her to the mall or a movie, although she refused to miss school, believing that her classmates would like her if she tried hard enough. Walter, who did not know her birthday, ordered Walter to buy her a present. When she arrived at school, she heard people talk behind her back and subsequently used her powers to skip school. Then, she went to a Barrett's Super Mart where an employee had called her weird, resulting in her using her powers to destroy the store. The police arrived and arrested her and her arrest was reported on the news.

Walter opted to drop charges and attempt a second paternity test, as well as to send Sofia back to Venezuela. However, Dani Moonstar, who watched the news, visited Sofia, who agreed to leave with her for Charles Xavier's Institute For Higher Learning, much to her father's disapproval.
