Synopsis for "The Ties that Bind (Part 1): Higher Learning"

Josh and David were getting dressed inside of their dorm when the latter left with Sofia for lunch, while the former chose not to leave with Laurie. Josh wrote a letter to his parents about his experience at the Xavier Institute, particularly regarding his classes.

For lunch, Josh sat down with Julian and learned that Jean had given him detention. Dani and David drank coffee at the Grind Stone Cafe where the former encouraged the latter to reach out to Josh, despite his previous affiliation with the Reavers. Victor asked Xi'an to be his new advisor, claiming that he and Wolverine were not compatible. Then, Xi'an visited Amara's bed and read her letters from their former team.

David returned to his dorm and told Josh about Amara. Later, Josh and Julian snuck into her room where the former of the two students used his healing powers to wake the woman from her coma, although upon waking up, she caused an explosion before running away. After the incident, David confronted Josh, who became angry and walked away.

The next day, Professor X spoke during an assembly about the incident before ordering Julian and Josh to enter his office and gave them both detention after explaining that Amara had refused to be helped or found. Jean-Paul ordered Julian to visit his office the next day, while Dani lashed out at Josh, claiming that Amara was "family to her."

Two weeks later, Josh saw his parents arrive at the school and asked Sofia to use her powers to eavesdrop on them. As Josh heard his parents talk to Professor X, he believed that they were taking him away from the school, although they had actually named the school to be his new legal guardian. After Josh's parents left the school, Dani insisted that they were his family now, but he rudely brushed her off.
