History

On Earth-TRN911, the Police department of New York City is a Police unit protecting New York City from criminal elements, both regular[2][3] and superhuman,[4][1] even if officers sometimes fail to identify the costumed criminals they are chasing. The Police does not have superhuman agents, so they can be easily overpowered by superpowered criminals.[4] The Police sometimes collaborates with other agencies.[5]

In general, the Police has a friendly collaboration with superhero el Hombre Araña: Police officers are thankful when el Hombre Araña helps them against criminals;[4] they listen to el Hombre Araña's reports and trust their version of facts,[6] even when el Hombre Araña appears with a corpse;[5] they obeyed el Hombre Araña's commands to not approach a super-criminal they wanted to apprehend at a given moment (a command which later proved very sensible);[7] and at least in one occassion, the Police chief explicitly contacted el Hombre Araña, by means unknown, to ask for his collaboration in a case.[1] Even when businessman J. Jonah Jameson insisted that el Hombre Araña was involved in crimes, the Police disregarded Jameson's words.[3] Nonetheless, el Hombre Araña does not neccessarily trust the Police for everything: When he defeated el Duende Verde and the later's mind turned back to Norman Osborn's, el Hombre Araña decided not to involve the Police and let Osborn go.[8]

Supervillain hunter Kraven el Cazador wanted to defeat and vilify his enemy el Hombre Araña in a convoluted plan. Kraven first apprehended criminals in several heists, turning them to the Police, to earn their trust, while also ensuring that el Hombre Araña would make a fool of himself. Then, Kraven impersonated el Hombre Araña and tried to rob a bank, defeating the Police in the process. The real Hombre Araña stopped Kraven and revealed his ruse; but he also theorized that, as Kraven had helped the Police stopping other crimes, Kraven would get a light sentence.[2]

When Electro stole radioactive vials and used them to blackmail the city, the Police tried to stop him. It was el Hombre Araña who defeated Electro and returned the vials to the Police. A Police officer admiringly told el Hombre Araña that the later was likely a happy person, unaware of el Hombre Araña's personal problems.[4]

El Hombre Araña found Satánica's secret laboratory in the outskirts of New York City and fought her there, leading to the destruction of the lab in an explosion. The Police went there to investigate, and el Hombre Araña reported what had happened. The Police failed to find Satánica.[6]

In further ocassions, they apprehended robbers liked to the organized crime[3] and other criminals.[9] When astrology professor Shiller was harassed by invisible aliens and reacted by firing his own gun, the police believed Shiller was attacking the population and apprehended him.[10] They also investigated the in-flight destruction of a passenger airplane, failing to find any clues; so they collaborated with other authorities in that case.[5]

Jameson was given a letter by a repenting drug dealer that implicated several Mafia members; Jameson intended to deliver the letter to the FBI as expected of him, but he also wanted to publish the news before even the police knew about that. The sudden intervention of corrupt senator Roger Steves, secretly one of the Mafiosi who ordered to murder the drug dealer (with the police intervening) made Jameson more wary and he delayed his news. Eventually the superhero Diabólico captured the criminals and delivered them to the police (who was confused because el Hombre Araña had not appeared to help). The police then made a public statement, so that every newspaper would have access to the information at the same time.[11]

The police also tried to stop supervillain Hidra's crime wave robbing banks, but they were unable to do it on their own. When el Hombre Araña came, the police told them the details of Hidra's crimes, and agreed to carry el Hombre Araña on a police car so that both they and he could chase Hidra's car. El Hombre Araña jumped from the police car to Hidra's car, making her crash. Hidra was taken to the hospital and it was reported that, if she survived, she would face a long jail time. El Hombre Araña left without waiting for the policemen's thanks.[12]

The police found Professor Koval's corpse at his home and, finding no traces of theft, they concluded the motive was revenge and correctly suspected of Koval's assistant Robert. Indeed, Robert had stolen Koval's discovery to become a superpowerful villain, el Hombre Dorado, who started a crime spree of theft and murder. Being invulnerable to bullets, el Hombre Dorado had nothing to fear from the police. The police worked along el Hombre Araña when el Hombre Dorado tried to steal atomic batteries. El Hombre Araña (secretly another of Koval's lab assistants) correctly deduced that proximity to uranium would nullify el Hombre Dorado's powers and kill him, but el Hombre Dorado ignored el Hombre Araña's warning, and was destroyed. The police concluded that el Hombre Dorado had paid for his crimes.[7]

Knowing of an imminent threat to the city, they notified el Hombre Araña, who found that supervillain Doctor Infierno aimed to attack and defeat explicitly el Hombre Araña. Their battle attracted the Police forces, but Infierno defeated the policemen and el Hombre Araña, then leaving without killing them for his own reasons.[1]

The police also arrested some of the gangsters that attacked el Hombre Araña as members of el Alfiler's assassin army. Seeing el Hombre Araña with the police, Gwen Stacy approached el Hombre Araña to ask him for help - she had been led to believe that her boyfriend Peter Parker had been kidnapped and only el Hombre Araña could rescue him, due to a note that also warned her to not go to the police.[13]

The Police was tricked by another Hombre Araña impersonator, but once again, the real Hombre Araña defeated the mimic, and the police apprehended the criminal, clearing el Hombre Araña's name.[14]

Notes

  • In El Sorprendente Hombre Araña #172, Peter Parker has a detailed dream that included a version of the Police he knows - from an alternate universe, as it was a dream story.
  • In El Sorprendente Hombre Araña #177, the Police chief calls el Hombre Araña. It is unclear how the Police could contact el Hombre Araña - either they have some contact information for him, or (more likely) they made a public announcement for him to visit the precinct, maybe asking the Police patrols to look for him.
  • In El Sorprendente Hombre Araña #149 we can see a police helicopter in the desert, but this is likely outside the jurisdiction of New York City Police Department.
