Inside the S.H.I.E.L.D. Helicarrier we witness as Dr. Kraus has had Fury under the Psycho-Projector for two weeks bringing much of what happened after Fury shot Agent Robert Rickard into question, especially concerning the dreaded Super-Patriot. Dugan and Dr. Kraus were attempting to use the Psycho-Projector to help them understand if Fury was still loyal to S.H.I.E.L.D. and if they could still trust him to lead the organization. Wiping his memory of his time spent in the device Kraus sent Fury home.

Fury wakes to a splinting headache and Agent Agent Valentina Allegra de Fontaine playing as his nurse. Fury thinking how serious their relationship is based on her flippant demeanor. Fury prepares his day but unbeknownst to him he is being watched by an Immortal Hydra and his agents, one in particular, Number 72, tasked with killing the Colonel in 24 hours or be prepared to die in his place and be replaced as his second in command.

Fury goes about his day only to almost be killed by his shower and an assassination attempt as he leaves his apartment. Both failing due to the directors quick actions. Fury hops in his car and flies off to avoid being questioned by the police after disabling the two assassins. On his way to the helicarrier he attempts to shave but yet again the forces of Hydra attempt to assassinate him through a shock intended to stop his heart. The jolt somehow knocking him back breaking the connection by sheer luck. One of his anti-grav wheels start to malfunction just as he's nearing the carrier forcing the colonel to eject from the car and land via parachute.

Upon landing he visits with his gadget and machinery expert the Gaffer who introduces him to a flying motorcycle that can go invisible. The Gaffer hopes Nick will take better of it than he did the car he was just destroyed and hands him the manual to the bike. Nick leaves and heads to his office on the carrier to get some sleep.

Meanwhile Dugan, Val, and Gabe confront Kraus about clearing Fury for duty after monitoring him and seeing nothing to suggest he wasn't loyal. Kraus demands that he continue his monitoring of Fury for the murder of Agent Rickard. Dugan finding this suspicious mentions to Kraus that he did some digging on Rickard and was able to discover he was working with Hydra and that Rickard and Kraus spent a lot of secret meetings together. Kraus knowing he's close to being discovered exposes himself as an agent of Hydra and releases a gas to make his escape in order to kill Fury.

While attempting to sleep Kraus enters Fury's office and holds him at gunpoint only to be jostled by Agent Huff who was in charge of keeping Fury safe. Fury given a brief moment to act leaps at Kraus and knocks the gun from his hand. Kraus tears off his uniform and reveals his Hydra clothing underneath before jumping out the window and using a jetpack to escape.

Fury hugs huff in thanks for saving his life but still questions why he saw himself as the Super-Patriot... somehow remembering his time in the Psycho-Projector.

Continuity Notes[]

  • Dr. Kraus is mistakenly called, "Dr. Sammartino", in this issue.
  • This issue muddles much of what happened last issue as to what was and wasn't real due to Nick Fury's time in the Psycho-Projector. What is known for sure is that Fury did kill Agent Robert Rickard and go on to defeat the Super-Patriot, the details of the Super-Patriot's identity however is still a mystery.
