Synopsis for "A Boggie Day in L'un Dun-T'wn"

Shagreen has captured Nightcrawler and Lockheed and brought him to his floating citadel L'un Dun-T'wn. He straps Nightcrawler to a device designed to analyze his powers. Unfortunately, it also negates Kurt's ability to teleport. Shagreen runs a battery of tests in the hopes of divining Nightcrawler's unique mutant talents.

As he leaves the room, a pack of mischievous imps known as Boggies appear before Nightcrawler's eyes. They free him from the device and explain that they are captives inside of Shagreen's citadel. In exchange for letting him go, Nightcrawler agrees to free the Boggies.

Shagreen meanwhile has ordered his disciples to kidnap the Jinjav, Sabree. She is brought back to the fortress, and Shagreen prepares to sacrifice her to his dark god, Cthuma-Gurath.

Nightcrawler navigates the vast corridors of the castle and battles two stone serpents guarding the lower alter room. He eventually finds Shagreen and keeps him from sacrificing the Jinjav. The two combatants begin fighting one another and Nightcrawler quickly deduces that the bulk of Shagreen's power is concentrated in his magic staff.

Nightcrawler soon receives aid from an unlikely resource - the pirate, Captain Long John McGurk. Accusing Shagreen of short-changing him for the sale of Nightcrawler, McGurk fires his full battery of cannons, laying siege to L'un Dun-T'wn.

Nightcrawler and Shagreen continue to fight, but Kurt finally gets the upper hand and destroys Shagreen's magic staff. As the staff shatters, all of Shagreen's magical effects dissipate and L'un Dun-T'wn crumbles to the ground. Shagreen grabs Jinjav Sabree and escapes the carnage aboard his own sky-galleon. Nightcrawler and Lockheed give chase and Kurt and the wizard fight each other with swords aboard the top of the ship's living engine. While Kurt wrestles Sabree from Shagreen's clutches, Lockheed blasts the sorcerer in the back with his fire breath, causing him to topple from his perch. Nightcrawler cannot teleport in time to save him, and fears that Shagreen may have fallen to his death.

Meanwhile back on Earth, Kitty Pryde and Illyana Rasputin work diligently inside the observation booth of the Danger Room, struggling to find a way to bring Nightcrawler back. Kitty briefly locks onto Kurt's energy signature, but she only manages to snag his costume. She quickly returns it to him and begins making readjustments.

Suddenly, Kurt is whisked away through the Well at the Center of Time. He appears on a strange, grassy alien world of unknown origin. More surprising to him however, is the appearance of a small blue dwarf who looks remarkably a lot like Nightcrawler himself. With a playful smile on his face, the dwarf addresses Kurt as "Daddy".

Notes

  • The Boggies as seen in this issue, bear a strong resemblance to a creature known as a "Bamf". Bamfs appeared in the Kitty's Fairy Tale story from Uncanny X-Men #153. The term "Bamf" is an onomotopoeia used to describe the sound of escaping brimstone whenever Nightcrawler teleports from place to place.
