History
Nikki Doyle was a VR addict who had immersed herself so deeply addicted to black market VR dens that she stopped eating in order to pay for time in these illicit worlds. She also had the ability to manipulate the VR worlds.[1] During this time she worked with Gabe Steiner whom she would supply with VR games and he would tinker with them to improve them. While out on a delivery she was caught and arrested and by the time she got out Gabe had disappeared.[2] She was arrested again and while in prison she was approached by the Arcade who seemingly knew of her abilities and offered her her freedom in exchange for helping them shut down illegal VR dens.
While working with Arcade she worked with Liddel and Detective Trout and six months after striking the deal she was sent to infiltrate "Effy's Den". She managed to get inside, but Effy became suspicious and was going to have his associate search her when she got the drop on them and allowed Arcade and NYPD to swarm the building and detain all present. One addict was still inside the machines and Liddel had Nikki enter the VR world to pull him out. The VR world was warped that it broke Nikki's communication to outside world. She was confronted by VR versions of both Venom and Carnage. In the real world, other gangs and dealers began to attack Arcade and the NYPD.[1]
A VR Spider-Man joined in to attack Nikki, she defeated both him and Venom but when confronting Carnage she used her ability to find a portal out of their and escaped into a sewer area. Here she was confronted by a Sabretooth construct but the addict she came to help saved her. He explained how he had been killed by the game, but found himself unable to leave and the pair were greeted by Virtual Ghosts, remnants of former players who wanted Nikki and the addict to stay permanently in VR. The attack was injured by the Ghosts and then killed by a demon that had killed him previously and Nikki again used her ability to escape. She arrived in a white void and found the addict suspended. She deduced they must have a similar ability and helped him return to reality, hoping to exchange him for freedom from Arcade. Just as she returned the attacking gangs launched a rocket at Effys.[3]
Before the gang could fire a second rocket, Arcade and Nikki were saved by Death Duty, a covert black ops S.H.I.E.L.D. group. After returning to their headquarters Lt. Pyke recruited Nikki to take down her former partner Gabe. Gabe had just been arrested and they used Nikki in an undetectable program to spy n Gabe's activities. When Gabe went to see his associate Yukio, Pyke initiated a kill signal, which Yukio detected. He assumed Gabe had betrayed him and killed him. Before he died, an apparition of Gabe appeared before Nikki before fading. Pyke revealed this had been a loyalty test, which she had passed, but in her anger she punched Pyke in the face. Pyke then threatened to sent her back to prison permanently.[4]
Rather than returning to prison, Nikki stole interface electrodes and planned to hide in VR until her body faded away and she would join the Virtual Ghosts. She was eventually found by Liddel who entered the program and after lashing out and killing his virtual archetype, returned to the real world where Pyke was no longer going to send her to prison. Liddel revealed he had discovered Trasktech was involved in the warped VR program and Nikki entered the system and attempted to steal the information on the companies activities. Just as she obtained evidence of the VR military training program that killed it's test subjects she was discovered and the files removed and upon returning to the real world could no longer remember it's contents.[4]
Trout discovered that one of the cyber-punx gangs had been hacking into the networks during a gang fight and sent Nikki inside to discover their identity. She posed as a Burner and saved one of the Finns, Gyle (secretly a SHIELD agent) from one of the security programs, who then saved Nikki from an attack by one of his own gang members. Nikki found herself enticed and when she left, Gyle attempted to capture her, which she allowed and planted a kiss on him before fading from VR. She returned later and met up with Gyle who disappeared and Nikki track him down to a base and then Nikki was attacked by the real Mysterio and his virtual Sinister Six.[5] She fought the group but was injured until she used her abilities to heal herself and defeat the Six and forced Mysterio to flee. Gyle escaped and joined the fray as the Burners and the Finns arrived to help fight all of Myserios VR constructs. Mysterio escaped deleting all data which could lead the authorities to him. Liddel appeared and helped Nikki return to the real world.[6]
Nikki left Arcade for a period and happened to bump into Crane an old friend who took her back to his place to try a new VR set out. They appeared in VR jungle and were confronted by its robot inhabitants in order to protect the natural creatures. Unbeknownst to Nikki this was a trap by Crane's employer Dorian Trask the CEO of Trasktech who had Crane leave Nikki in quagmire after she became trapped. She attempted to use her abilities to escape but found herself unable to and Trask revealed himself and offered her freedom in exchange for working solely for him against Arcade. Nikki declined as Liddel entered the program to rescue her but he was knocked down and captured by Trask who attempted to use him as a hostage. Meanwhile, Trout prepared to enter reality to rescue the pair himself.[7]
The fate of Trout and Liddell is unknown.[8]Attributes
