- Shattered Earth was a shared universe created by Malibu Comics from 1988-1990, around the world of the Ex-mutants. The universe was owned by the company. The Ex-mutants property was rebooted in 1992 as new characters and universe When Marvel bought Malibu in 1994, they inherited the same rights as Malibu to the property (original and reboot), so that's the reason why Marvel Database covers their pre-Malibu appearances (for similar case, see Marvelman Vol 1).
- Ninja was a comic created and owned by C.J. Henderson and published by Eternity and later Malibu Comics. As part of the Shattered Earth initiative, the character of Ninja had a crossover in its issue 11 with 2 characters of the New Humans, being advertised as a past happening before a nuclear war. So, the comic Ninja is part in the Shattered Earth Universe and is listed in the database.
