Though, the references to the Nisanti have not been confirmed to be tied to Dormammu.
History
Origins[]
The Nisanti is a Principality, a mystical being invoked for power by lesser being, and demon of unrevealed origin[5][6] (see notes).
His name was included in the Gibborim-devoted Rite of Thunder,[10][11] the summoning spell[2] for the Marrakant Hellguard,[12] among others.[7][13]
Artifacts and items of power were also named after him, such as the Nisanti Cabinet[1] or the Sands of Nisanti.[3][4] The Nisanti's influence was also apparent in the Staff of One. A totem resembling the Nisanti once turned a pawn shop owner in Seattle into a gigantic monster[7]
Modern Age[]
This event is often connected to the Nisanti, but has been revealed to be tied to Dormammu instead. As such, no appearance of an actual Nisanti has been provided.
One of the many cults who invoked Dormammu somehow managed to get hold on the mystical "bonding cloak" and boots, and used a sub-human creature as host for Dormmamu, thinking he would be manageable. Dormammu slayed the cultists, before sensing a suitable host, Parker Robbins, and headed towards him.[14] This creature was though to be called "the Nisanti", though it was unsure at the time if it was the actual Nisanti or another being transformed by its power.[7]
"The Nisanti" encountered Parker Robbins and John King, but Parker unloaded his gun in the monster's face, apparently killing him, and stole the boots and cloak before fleeing.[15]
After the Hood was abducted along other superhumans to battle for the "Beyonder" (in fact the Stranger), he attempted to act with nobility, but abandoned to "the Nisanti's" growing influence,[7] though this was likely the influence of Dormammu.Attributes
Powers
Various spells included Nisanti in their invocations:
- Summoning the Marrakant Hellguard,[12] by the spell "Nisanri Kn vtn. Sintan hkk nrvn! Vintak rvv krn".[2]
- During the sacrifice ceremony for the Gibborim, the Rite of Thunder,[11] the following sentence was chanted: "Antin krek varin... Vriik hr Nisanti... Nisanti he karinn!".[10] Another version starts with "Vriik hr Nisanti..." but was interrupted.[11]
Paraphernalia
Equipment
Various artifacts were tied to the Nisanti:
- The Nisanti Cabinet was apparently a piece of furniture at the Sanctum Sanctorum, where were stored the Wands of Satannish.[1]
- The Sands of Nisanti was a temporary magic-nullifying hourglass summoned by the spell "Vrak Par Hensargin!".[3][4] The Sands were created in the Earth Dimension by a Earth magician.[4]
- The Nisanti's influence was also apparent in the Staff of One.
- A totem resembling the Nisanti once turned a pawn shop owner in Seattle into a gigantic monster[7]
Notes
- The unnamed demon is said to be Nisanti by Madison Carter through personal correspondence with Brian K. Vaughan at the Appendix to the Handbook of the Marvel Universe.[16]
- Hood's profile in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z #5 (October 29, 2008) stated that it was unverified whether the being seen in Hood #1 was the actual Nisanti or another being transformed by its power. Likewise, the voices communicating with Parker through the hood were stated to be yet to be determined if they were the Nisanti or else.[7]
- It was later retconned that the demon is in fact Dormammu in Dark Reign: The Hood #3 (May 28, 2009).[14]
- In Ghost Rider: Final Vengeance #2 (April 17, 2024), Parker simply described the demon as "a Nissanti demon", and doesn't mentions Dormammu.[9]
- Though, whether an actual Nisanti exists, and what connection, if any, exists between him and Dormammu, remains unrevealed.
- The Demons' profile in Marvel Zombies: The Book of Angels, Demons & Various Monstrosities #1 (September 26, 2007) and Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z #3 (June 25, 2008) mentions the Nisanti as part of the unidentified beings, who "may even be locations or non-magical beings, such as ancestors or historical figures", but also mentions him in the list of (unpictured) demons.
Trivia
- The Demons' profile in Marvel Zombies: The Book of Angels, Demons & Various Monstrosities #1 (September 26, 2007) mentions Nisanti as being only referenced in Hood #1. This was changed in the same profile in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe A to Z #3 (June 25, 2008), though Dark Reign: The Hood #3 (May 28, 2009) retconned the demon seen in Hood #1 as being Dormammu.[14].
- Both the Nisanti and Dormammu are both part of the many demons fought by the Hulk in his own psyche in Hulk (Vol. 5) #5 (March 30, 2022).[17]
