Synopsis for "Grave New World"
Rebecca Barnes, a refugee from another version of Earth, is washing dishes for cash in a small restaurant in new York. She's a little freaked out by the diffences between the two worlds, but she is adjusting, with her off-the-book job and a room in a cheap hostel. As she is doing a workout, her police scanner gives a report about Captain America fighting villains near her. Grabbing her Bucky costume, she rushes to meet him.
She knows that "her" Captain America, Steve Rogers, is dead, and she wants to meet his replacement. However, she is stopped by the Black Widow, who insists that Cap should never meet her.
The next morning, Rebecca deals with the other part of her life - this world's equivalent of her brother John is attending Aiken Garvey High School, and she forged an identity to attend classes with him. The teacher, Dr Powers, points out to the students that they have incredible influence on the world. Later, at the assembly for the student body president, a boy called Desmond Daniels uses most of the same points, and says that people are not taking responsibility for the sorry state of the world. Five students from different social groups stand up and start chanting, and the rest of the crowd is soon chanting along. Rebecca is worried, but John brushes it off.
Over the next few days, the five students who started the chant gang up on people engaged in "anti-social" activities: couples kissing in the hall, untucked shirts, messy eaters. They never act alone, only as a group. Rebecca is deeply suspicious, especially when the five students stay on campus after lockdown. That night, Rebecca goes patrolling the school as Bucky, and sees one of the students going into the janitor's closet. Following her, she finds a set of stairs going underground. Below the school, Bucky finds an animalistic humanoid with no pants. Suffering severe chest wounds, Bucky runs.
Running, she takes stock. On the one hand, she knows she's on to something. On the other hand, she's got no money, her costume a mess and she's bleeding. She is about to call it a night - when she sees that someone has left a case on her containing a clean costume and a file labeled "NOMAD EYES ONLY"...
