History
Becoming the Goblin[]
Norman Osborn at the Oscorp labs.
Doctor Norman Osborn was a brilliant scientist and businessman/industrialist He was the head of Oscorp, a company that was contracted to create a new Super-Soldier. Osborn's colleague, Doctor Mendel Stromm, assisted in his efforts to acquire altered DNA, first from Spider-Man, then from the Scorpion, whose powers their Super Solider formula hoped to emulate. Despite their use of both Light Mech and Hunter Killer robots, their efforts ultimately failed.
Due to the slow pace of development, the company's board of directors threatened to remove Osborn from his company. In retaliation, Osborn used the experimental formula on himself and birthed the Green Goblin. Osborn gained superhuman strength and agility, but went insane in the process, leading him to kill Stromm and steal an exoskeleton suit and jet-powered glider.[1]
Confrontation with Spider-Man[]
In an act of revenge, the Goblin attacked the Oscorp World Unity Fair in Times Square, and inadvertently almost killed Mary Jane Watson. The Goblin's appearance at the festival also marked the beginning of his animosity towards Spider-Man, although he initially viewed Spider-Man as a kindred spirit, and attempted to recruit him to his side. However, after his offers were continually rubutted, and following several aerial battles across the city, he concluded that Spider-Man was a threat and made plans to destroy him.[1]
Final Confrontation and Death[]
Norman later learned of Spider-Man's compassion for Mary Jane, while viewing surveillance photos from a Hunter Killer robot. He then attacked and kidnapped Mary Jane from her apartment, and took her to the top of the Queensboro Bridge. Despite attacking Spider-Man upon his arrival, the Goblin failed to stop him swinging her to safety.
The Goblin pressed the attack, but Spider-Man gained the upper hand. After being defeated in their final battle, Norman removed his Goblin helmet to reveal himself to Spider-Man. While creating a distraction, he secretly directed his glider to strike Spider-Man from behind. Spider-Man sensed the attack with his Spider-Sense and dodged, but the glider killed the Green Goblin after hitting him. Just before he died, Norman pleaded with Peter to tell Harry he was sorry.[1]Attributes
