History
Mercy was a serial psychopath who instead of killing his targets, let them live but who cut off their hands and tongues so they would be unable to identify him. He was at some point captured and imprisoned where he was visited by the Darkhold Dwarf who gave him one of the pages of the Darkhold. After reading the page aloud, the Other appeared and grabbed Mercy from his cell and dropped him outside the prison in the woods, unable to see any colors (whether this was the world lacking color, or him lacking color-vision is not clarified). Here, he was confronted by demons, chased and attacked by a dog, and one of his past victims, before being discovered by the prison guards, their lights returning the world to normal. He was returned to his cell, but he was driven mad at the thought of the demons returning once darkness returned and after righting a note, jabbed himself in the eye. This killed his brain, but his mind/spirit survived and witnessed as he was placed in a coffin and set to be eternally haunted by the demons.[1]
