History

Origins[]

The Octessence was an assembly of eight rival entities among the principalities: Balthakk, Cyttorak, Farallah, Ikonn, Krakkan, Raggadorr, Valtorr, and Watoomb, who sought to prove themselves the most powerful. Instead of entering in open conflict, they set the Wager of the Octessence: each member would empower a mortal using a talisman to fight for said principality as its Exemplar (avatar).[1]

Early years[]

Dyzakk, one of the principalities,[2] (though not part of the Octessence) created the dimension known as Dyzakk in the 24th hour of the eight day, to make it very difficult to reach. The "Dungeon Dimension" (as it came to be known) was an enormous prison for sorcerers, witches, demons, devils, and angels found guilty for crimes against the mystic principalities of the Octessence.[3] That reality frequently worked with the Krakkan dimension, the realm of Octessence member Krakkan, in order to punish and restraint those who offended the Octessence.[4]

Modern Age[]

War of the Seven Spheres[]

Before the War of the Seven Spheres began, many of the principalities and mystic entities usually invoked for power sought to recruit Doctor Strange to fight for them, including Octessence members Cyttorak, Ikonn, Raggadorr, Valtorr, and Watoomb, arriving to claim Strange for their side. To escape them all, Strange invoked the Law of Emancipation, relinquish the ability to call upon any of the powers and principalities.[5]

All of the members of the Octessence were involved in the War of the Seven Spheres.[1] The conflict would last five thousand years, though waged within months by human reckoning.[1]
