Quote1 I am all that is left of the Gibborim. I am alone, and I hunger. Quote2
Gib[src]

Gib was the last of the Gibborim left on Earth and a member of the Runaways.

History

Gib and his nestmates Bo and Rim were the children of the previous trinity of Gibborim. After the Pride cleansed it of nearly all humanity, the Seed of the Gibborim were meant to inherit the Earth empowered and fed by the billions of sacrificed souls.[4] Unfortunately for them, the Runaways stopped their parents' Rite of Thunder, freed the soul of Destiny Gonzales, and trapped the Gibborim in Limbo.[5][4]

Gib guarding the Runaways in the Hostel

Instead of awakening from their chrysalises fortified with the power of billions of sacrificed souls, the Seed of the Gibborim woke up hungry, weak, short, and alone. Angry to find an Earth still infested with humanity, the Seed of the Gibborim found the Runaways to demand they honor their parents promise.[4] Although most flatly refused to participate, Alex Wilder asked for time to prepare and the Seed of the Gibborim granted them a week. Gib was assigned to stay at the Hostel to guard the Runaways.[6]

During his week with the Runaways, Gib became touched by their kindness and compassion.[7] Conflicted over his mission, Gib destroyed Doombot to prevent him from seeking help.[8] When Rim and Bo returned, Gib tried to convince them to forgo the Rite of Thunder and even fought to defend the Runaways. While Gib attempted to convince his nestmates, Gert Yorkes used her remote to summon the 4-D Time Portico to transport Bo and Rim 999 years into the future. Although he fought to save humanity, Gib was incredibly saddened by the loss of his nestmates.[9] The Runaways welcomed Gib to their family, and attempted to help him find an alternative to his need to feed on sacrificed souls. For the most part, Gib remained sitting still at the entrance of the Hostel, only exclaiming his need to feed.[10]

When the Runaways were forced out of the underground Hostel by an inadvertent public drainage work,[11] Gib moved with them to the mansion of the local vigilante Doc Justice.[3] Under Doc Justice's wing, the Runaways became a new incarnation of the hero's former squad, the J-Team.[12] Gib was also found a purpose within the team, donning a monster costume as Old God. However, he was becoming increasingly weak due to his starvation of souls.[1] When Doc Justice turned against the Runaways during a mission because he intended to kill Karolina Dean to raise his own profile as he had done for the entirety of his career with his young protégés, he was killed by Old Lace. The dinosaur afterwards dragged Doc Justice's body to Gib, allowing him to consume his soul and regain his vitality.[13]

Following the team's incident with Doc Justice, both Gert and Victor Mancha decided to resume their high school studies at Griffith Park High School. Gib decided to join them out of a desire to learn about humanity by living amongst it. In order to blend in, Gib displayed the ability to change his appearance, making himself look like a human, albeit retaining his stature. Gib's constitution caught the attention of the school's football coach Ortega,[2] and Gib quickly became the team's star player, earning him the acceptance and adulation of his temmates.[14] In order to keep Gib fed, the team's cat Rufus routinely commanded the neighborhood's cats telepathically to bring him dead rats for him to consume their essence.[15]

Attributes

Powers

Gib and the other Seed of the Gibborim appear to be lacking many of the powers common to Gibborim due to their lack of sacrificial human souls.[4][9] However, Gib does still possess the following powers due to being instead offered sacrificed animal souls:

Weaknesses

Gib is seemingly weaker than other Gibborim because of the lack of sacrificial souls.[4][9]
