History
Under Cromwell, England became a Protestant republic.[1] Allied with both Catholic and Royalist Irish allies, he led a re-conquest of Ireland in 1649.[1]
Irish rebels rose up to oppose Cromwell's army.[2] Cromwell and his forces would end up killing perhaps a third of the population of Ireland.[1]
