History

The Order of the Golden Dawn was founded by Fu Manchu at a pre-Colombian temple in South America. He brought various secret societies and cults into one single organization dedicated to bringing about a new world order. It consisted of the Celestial Order of the Si-Fan (China), the Twenty-Third Sect, the Leopard Cult (Africa), the Phansigars, Thugees and Dacoits (India),[2] the Knights Templar (Europe), the Hashishin (Middle East), the Left-Hand Path (satanic cult), the Three-Cornered Sight, and the Light-Seekers.[3] When Shang-Chi and his allies invaded the temple, they were attacked by representatives of several of these groups.[4]

During Fu Manchu's plan to bring about World War III, he sent the Phansigars and Si-Fan to prevent his son Shang-Chi and the MI6 from interfering which they failed to achieve.[5] Later, when Shang-Chi and his associates invaded Fu Manchu's fortress in Honan, China, they were confronted by the Si-Fan, Knights Templar, Leopard Cultists, Phansigars, and Hashishin whom attempted to defend the fortress.[2]

It was later revealed by Shi-Hua that the Golden Dawn, along with the Order of the Si-Fan and Order of the Hai-Dai were aliases used for the Five Weapons Society, much like how Fu Manchu was an alias for Zheng Zu.[1]

Notes

  • In Sax Rohmer's novels, Si-Fan, Dacoits and Thuggee are groups that serve Fu Manchu.
  • In real life, Thugees and Phansigars refer to the same group, but they were portrayed in the comics as distinct groups.[6]
  • Thugees are recognized as worshipers of the Goddess Kali, this connection is not shown in the comics, but in Marvel Atlas #2, the Cult of Kali is said to be part of Fu Manchu's Si-Fan.[7]
  • After Zheng Zu's death, the Order was disbanded, however, he still had control of Dacoits, he sent Zaran with some Dacoits to face Shang-Chi and the Marvel Knights.[8]
  • In Marvel Knights #13, Shang-Chi says that the Jezails were one of the groups that served his father, it is possible that they were also part of the Order of the Golden Dawn.
