Orenda is the mystic energy that courses through the inhabitants and environments of the interdimensional Giizhigong spiritual plane, harnessed by the godlike spirits known as the Manidoog for a variety of effects and superhuman feats.[1]

History

Throughout history, the power of Orenda has been used by the Manidoog in a variety of ways.

Gitche Manitou, the Great Spirit and Sky Father of the Manidoog, uses the power of Orenda to manifest Spirit Arrows and a Spirit Hatchet capable of disrupting other mystical enchantments, such as when he used these instruments to force the Spirit of Vengeance known as Ghost Rider to revert to his mortal form of Johnny Blaze. Manitou also utilized Orenda to summon beasts native to Giizhigong, such as Thunderbirds and Hobomokko, to battle Ghost Rider.[2][3][4]

The Manidoog Spirit of the Hunt known as Owayodata utilizes Orenda to manifest expert tracking abilities with an almost psychic intuition.[5]

The Manidoog Spirit of the Sun known as Tawa utilizes Orenda to travel at phenomenal speeds atop a beam of solid sunlight and to infuse his arrows with the explosive fury of the sun itself.[6][1]

When the Manidoog Spirit of Mischief known as Nanabozho and his allies sought to exact vengeance upon white Europeans for their treatment of the Indigenous American population and their activities which threatened the stability of Orenda, Dr. Strange used the Eye of Agamotto to convince him that his violent plan would be futile.[6][7]
