History
Ota Caristah was the high priest of the Cult of Ral in the City of Wonders in Valusia. The Cult of Ral followed the precepts of the prophet Ral, per the writings of the ancient and sacred Book of Ral.
As King Kull went to war with Commoria, the city was stated to have "wallowed in sin and corruption". A council of noblemen appointed Ota Caristah as law keeper, for him to restore order in Kull's stead. Ota Caristah started applying his understanding of the justice of Ral, and sentenced many to impalment, reducing lawlessness and population, while the Cult of Ral grew larger.
When Kull and his army returned to the City of Wonders after months of absence, they witnessed the impaled victims of the Keeper of Law, set in display before the walls of the city. Careful to not alarm the nobles, Kull had the legion camping outside the city's wall, entering the city with only Brule and the Red Slayers. Kull met with Caristah and relieved him of his duties, angering him in the process.
That very night, Ota Caristah dispatched a group of assassins to slay Kull in his bedchamber, for him to return as lawkeeper. The assassins who revealed they served "the justice of Ral", were killed, and Kull, Brule and other Valusian soldiers donned their garbs, before visiting Caristah at home, and sentenced him to death by impalment, outside the wall of the City of Wonders.
This was not the end of the Cult of Ral however.[1] Intending to avenge the Keeper of Laws by once again assassinating Kull in his bedchamber, the cultists infiltrated the palace, skirmished with the like-minded followers of Ohris Dehjmal (who had been sentenced to death by Kull), before uniting with them, and the group was slaughtered by worshipers of the god Kodatha (slain by Kull himself).[2]See Also
