Outlaw Kid #10
The Outlaw Kid is drawn to the local saloon when Brad King begins shooting after losing big in a card game. When the Kid tries to stop him, Brad wings the masked hero and makes a break for it and escapes. After getting his wound treated, the Outlaw Kid learns that Brad used to live in town but went bad after his father died and he moved away. The Outlaw Kid then goes out to find King, but loses the trail.

Giving up he changes into his alter-ego of Lance Temple and returns home. When he arrives there he finds that Brad King is in their home and has his father hostage. Brad demands that Lance give him a fresh horse to flee town. Lance complies and before leaving Brad tells Lance that he would rather die then spend another 24 hours in Caliber City before knocking Lance out and fleeing on his horse.

When Lance comes to, he tells his father that he is going into town to get the sheriff, and Zane reminds his son of his vow not to get involved in violence. Instead of getting the sheriff, Lance changes into the Outlaw Kid and follows after Brad alone. While following King into the desert a sand storm hits and knowing that Brad is untrained in dealing with sandstorms, the Outlaw Kid finds him easily.

Brad is struggling with the storm which is causing his horse to panic. The horse runs, making Brad drop his stolen loot which is then blown into the wind. The Outlaw Kid then tries to subdue Brad, but he tries to get away and unable to see in the storm accidentally runs off a cliff to his death. Later back at home with his father, Lance remarks how Brad said he would rather be dead than be in Caliber City a day longer, and points out the irony that his body will be buried in the Caliber City cemetery for all eternity.

Synopsis for "Renegade Rout!"

Reprint of the 3rd story from
Outlaw Kid #10
The Outlaw Kid is suddenly attacked by a band of renegade Native Americans led by a white man named Parch. The Kid manages to escape them by hiding in a hidden cave along a canyon. Changing into his alter-ego of Lance Temple, the Outlaw Kid returns home to his father where he is visited by his girlfriend Belle Taylor. Belle tells Lance of a series of robberies by the renegade Natives and that the army has sent troops to deal with the problem. When Belle decides to go into town, Lance offers to go with her to insure that she is safe.

In town, Lance spots Parch is the guide hired by the soldiers that are in town. Lance approaches them and tries to convince the captain of the soldiers that Parch cannot be trusted. Parch takes offence to this and punches Lance. When the soldier demands proof, Lance cannot do so without compromising his double identity and tells the soldier that he was mistaken. After Lance brings Belle home he changes back into the Outlaw Kid and follows after the soldiers in order to defend them from any danger.

Not far away, Parch is leading the troops along the range when he spots a smoke signal. Reading it as a call from his renegades, Parch tells the soldiers that it is a harmless Hopi signal. When they camp out for the night, Parch waits until the soldiers have fallen asleep to go and see what the message about. This turns out to be a trap laid out by the Outlaw Kid who jumps Parch and forces him to confess to the soldiers that he is leading them into an ambush. With this information, the Outlaw Kid is able to tip off the soldiers who are ready for the attack and easily capture the renegades.
