—Corvus Glaive[source]Outriders are not born, they are made. A genetically engineered parasite-assassin solely devoted to the whims of its maker, these creatures have no names, just a binary existence defined by whether they complete the task given to them or whether they fail.
History
The Outriders were a race of genetically engineered humanoid creatures with the purpose of serving their maker until they die.
Thanos used the Outriders to find new planets inhabited by weak species he would raze. Upon finding a new world, an Outrider would report to Corvus Glaive, who would arrive to that planet along with Thanos' Black Order and demand a tribute for Thanos, if the inhabitants refused, that world would be annihilated.
After finding a new planet called Ahl-Agullo, one Outrider was tasked by Glaive to continue with its mission. It found Earth, and gathered different information about the situation of this world using its telepathy on numerous important inhabitants[3] such as Inhuman king Black Bolt, who ripped off one of its four arms after discovering it; however, it was still able to get away. When it relayed back the information to Thanos, such as the Earth heroes the Avengers leaving the planet, Corvus gave it its reward: death.[4]
It turned out that Thanos was searching for his son, Thane, who he failed to kill, and had deployed the Outriders to search for him, finding him in an Inhuman tribe on Earth.[5][6] The Outriders began invasion during Thanos' attack, but were defeated by the combined forces of the Avengers Academy, Pan-Asian School for the Unusually Gifted, Jean Grey School for Higher Learning, Wakandan School for Alternative Studies, Future Foundation, Braddock Academy and University of Atlantis.[7]
The Outriders assisted the Black Order and Hela in attacking the Sanctuary II when Eros gathered the major cosmic powers to show them the will of his dead brother Thanos. During the attack, the Black Order created a black hole in order to steal Thanos' body, causing many Outriders to be sucked into it.[8]
The remaining Outriders fought the Guardians of the Galaxy and the remainder of the Dark Guardians on Knowhere to buy the Black Order and Hela enough time to properly resurrect Thanos. The Guardians were able to thwart the resurrection and soon another black hole was accidentally opened within Knowhere, sucking everything around it, including the Outriders, though the heroes were able to escape.[9]

The two sides fought, until the Zelchians' leader, Ghost, teleported both himself and Thanos to the planet's sun, making it appear that they both died. Although both of their leaders were gone, the Zelchians were inspired by Ghost's apparent sacrifice, and eventually managed to drive the Children of Thanos and the Outriders away from Zelchia.[13]

The Outriders were a species of mindless beasts that served Thanos and his Black Order. To get the Mind Stone from Wakanda, the Black Order deployed from the Q-Ship an entire armada comprised of countless Outriders who spilled from their containers and approached the nation's force field dome. Many Outriders died trying to pass the protective barrier, but as their large numbers began surrounding it and slowly breaking it, Black Panther ordered for the force field to be shut down.
The Outriders battled the Wakandan Army, which included the Dora Milaje, the Border Tribe and the Jabari Tribe, and the various members of the Avengers, and although the heroes managed to kill a large number of them they were slowly being overwhelmed. However, the arrival of the Scarlet Witch, Thor, Rocket Raccoon and Groot helped turn the tide, and most of the Outriders were taken down. Despite their loss, they did succeed in tiring and distracting the heroes, which paved way for Thanos to still get the last remaining Infinity Stone and finally accomplish his goal to kill half of life in the universe.[2]
Following the war, the spilled blood of the Outriders was collected by Nick Fury's secret squad of Skrulls and stored alongside the DNA of other superhuman individuals. The Outriders' DNA would later be used to enhance a group of Skrulls into Super-Skrulls.[15]

Notes
- When designing the Outriders for Avengers: Infinity War, Marvel Studios found itself concerned that the creatures too closely resembled another Marvel Comics property, Venom, which didn't have the rights of. Marvel ended up making minor changes to the Outriders to prevent that from happening.[22]
Trivia
- The Outriders appeared to be able to perceive the presence of Mistress Death.[23]
- Although non-canon, the Marvel Cinematic Universe-based book Thanos: Titan Consumed explains that the Outriders are a result of Thanos combining samples of DNA from the Chitauri, himself, and of various species that he killed.
