History

Lady Pamela Hawley was Nick Fury's girlfriend when he was stationed in England during WWII. They met during a German air raid[1] and fell in love.

In 1943, Pamela, Nick and "Dum Dum" Dugan encountered an amnesiac woman who was wandering aimlessly in London. When the woman called Pamela by name, they decided to take care of her until they could get her some help. The three of them were soon approached in a pub by a man who introduced himself as Dr. Stephen Strange. Secretly Earth's Sorcerer Supreme from the future, Strange revealed that the woman was his friend, Morgana Blessing, and claimed that she was suffering from partial amnesia due to several serious psychic traumas that she had experienced in recent days. Without revealing that he and Morgana were both from the future, Strange left Morgana in Pamela's care while he made preparations to restore her memory.[2]

That night, Morgana was kidnapped from Hawley Manor by Sir Anthony Baskerville who needed her as part of a ritual to incarnate Dormammu on Earth. Fearing that Pamela might have seen his face, Baskerville kidnapped her as well. The scheme by Baskerville and his allies was ultimately thwarted, and Doctor Strange used his magic to cause Pamela, Nick and Dum Dum to forget what had happened.[3]

Later that year, Pamela wrote a Christmas card and sent it to Nick. However, the envelope containing the card was lost behind a file cabinet in a British post office.[4]

Sometime later, Lady Pamela Hawley died during another German bombing raid in London before Fury, who had bought an engagement ring, had a chance to propose to her.[5]

Decades later, when the post office was razed, the long-lost envelope was found and sent to Colonel Nick Fury in the United States who received it just before Christmas.[4]

Trivia

  • When Doctor Strange first met Pamela Hawley, he speculated that she and Morgan Blessing, who slightly resembled each other, might have been "astral twins."[2] However, Strange later discovered that Pamela and Morgana were actually different incarnations of the same soul, one that had already lived hundreds upon hundreds of lives over the course of millennia.[6]
