History

Percy van Norton took a serum which made him into a "perfect human" with a range of superhuman abilities. But although he started out fighting crime, something went wrong, and he turned bad, ending up fighting as a Nazi as a member of the Battle-Axis, against the Invaders. At the end of the battle van Norton, along with the other Battle-Axis members, was defeated and captured.[1]

Van Norton's current status and post-war history remain unknown.

Attributes

Powers

Artificially Enhanced Physiology: Percy van Norton's powers are derived from a drug that he took to become a superhuman.

  • Superhuman Strength: Strongman was able to hurt Namor with the power of his blows.[2]
  • Superhuman Dexterity
  • Superhuman Stamina
  • Superhuman Durability: Strongman was far more resistant to physical damage than a normal human. He surived Namor's blows with only some discomfort and was hurt although undamaged by a surprise attack from Miss America.[2]

Notes

  • This character is based on the Public Domain character Strongman that first appeared in Crash Comic Adventures #1 (May 1940) as a wartime hero. As a Marvel character, however, he is a retcon addition, not having appeared in a Timely book. The character had fallen into the public domain and was used by Marvel as a villainous member of the Battle-Axis for their 1990s mini-series Invaders
