History
Star-Lord was a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy along with Rocket Raccoon, Gamora, Drax, and Groot. During one mission, Quill made a reckless call that caused Gamora, Drax and Groot to get caught in a temporal flux that aged them 100 years, killing them.[3] After that, he was consumed with guilt and was obsessed with becoming a hero again, like the old days.[4]
He and Rocket took a job from the Collector to find and deliver her the Black Vortex, which was on Earth.[5] They first stopped by a Stark Industries space mining freighter that was infested with Brood. They escaped with the aide of a Rigellian Recorder that Quill named Cora. When they all arrived on Earth, they found that thirty years prior, the supervillains had joined together to kill all the superheroes and then split up the country between them. Quill and Rocket ended up in the radiation-soaked Wastelands, which was Doctor Doom's territory.[1] They were able to navigate the Wastelands with the help of Red Crotter, a local who gave them shelter at his farm.[6]
Quill came up with a plan to fix things by submitting to the Black Vortex once he found it, and using its power to free the people from Doom.[6] At the same time, his and Rocket's reappearance after so many years inspired many locals who had given up hope, and gave new blood to an underground revolutionary movement called the Second Dawn that was being led by their old mutant telepath friend, Emma Frost.[4] When they finally came close to tracking down the location of the Black Vortex, they were kidnapped by Kraven the Hunter and forced to play in his survival reality series, Deer on a Spear.[7]
Eventually, Quill and Rocket found the Black Vortex, but they were confronted by Kraven, who wanted the Black Vortex to himself. During the fight, Rocket jumped in front of a knife throw meant for Quill, sacrificing his life. Kraven went through the Black Vortex, but his ego wouldn't let him submit, and the Black Vortex tore him apart. Afterwards, the Collector showed up to retrieve the Black Vortex. She gave Quill a Flora colossi seed as payment, telling him that it would be useful in healing the Wastelands.[2]Attributes
