Coulson! No... You were the greatest man I ever knew! You will be avenged! I will get the Avengers and you will be avenged, Coulson!...

History

Coulson was a loyal agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., being known as Nick Fury's right-hand man.[3]

An Alien Mission[]

Coulson was chosen to carry out a mission to go to the desert to collect what appeared to be a key from the other world. To get there, he asks an ally to drive Lola into the desert, but halfway there they stop for gas. However, several terrorists attacked the two when they stopped at the post, and after knocking them out, Coulson apologized to the ally for all that and dismissed him by giving him a reward, as Coulson would buy donuts and that would take a while.[2]

Evacuation of the S.H.I.E.L.D. Base[]

Upon, the Tesseract activating, an evacuation of the S.H.I.E.L.D. base was called, during said evacuation, Coulson got locked into a room, causing Agent Hill and Nick Fury to rescue him, once Coulson was freed, he briefed the two on the situation. Commandeering an impounded S.H.I.E.L.D. 4x4, the three made their way inside. Once the base begun to explode due to the Tesseract's power, Coulson was able to successfully leave the base.

Rounding Up the Avengers[]

Entering Phase II of the Avengers Initiative, Coulson contacted Black Widow, telling her to bring in Bruce Banner while Coulson contacted Tony Stark personally. Coulson was met with resistance from Stark, attempting to lock him out of the system, but Coulson was eventually able to override J.A.R.V.I.S.' protocols and contact Stark. Coulson eventually presented Stark with footage of several other candidates, with Stark deciding to review the footage and eventually agree to come with him. Later, Coulson escorted Rogers to a quinjet, flying to the Helicarrier and making his way inside. Once on board he took up other duties.

Attack on the Helicarrier[]

He was present on the carrier long after the capture of Loki, when rogue S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Clinton Barton launched a daring commando raid. Coulson uses his Destroyer Armor Prototype Gun to one of the more obvious target objectives: Loki's holding cell. When he arrived, he found Loki outside of the cell, and Thor trapped on the inside. He threatened Loki and held him at gunpoint, but the Asgardian was able to trick Coulson, fooling Coulson into targetting a hot dog sign with his likeness and knocks him out. Even though he was knocked out, Coulson says that Loki won't win, hitting him with a boxing glove from the gun before Loki escaped from the Helicarrier. Later, Nick found Coulson unconscious and gives him a travel card[2] to Tahiti.[3] After Loki's escape Fury deceitfully told Tony Stark and Steve Rogers that Coulson was dead, giving them motivation in the ensuing battle.[2]

Cosmic Brick Crisis[]

After the Grand Central Station battle, Coulson sent the Cosmic Bricks to the Baxter Building for further analysis and assigned Hulk to cleanup duty.

Throughout the Cosmic Brick crisis, Coulson was sent to lead cleanup duty for various locations such as Times Square, Oscorp and the Baxter Building.

One such cleanup occurred at the Daily Bugle after Dr. Octopus smashed through it. Coulson and Dr. Octopus were placed in charge of clearing up the Daily Bugle office; reassembling a broken window, fixing the door to J. Jonah Jameson's office, repairing a photocopier, putting out an office fire, cleaning the floor and getting some dried cat food off the ceiling. Jameson congratulated the two, promising to take back everything he said about them and giving them a 4% discount to Bugle papers.

Later, after the Baxter Building was fully repaired, Magneto smashed through the ceiling due to an encounter with Iron Man, Thor and Spider-Man, with Coulson helping bring Magneto in. Nick Fury made sure that S.H.I.E.L.D. were the ones to cover the costs in these cases.[1]

S.H.I.E.L.D. Return[]

Coulson helped Nick reactivate S.H.I.E.L.D. after the attempted subversion carried out by Hydra.[3] Coulson would also eventually become a new director of S.H.I.E.L.D. thanks to Nick's resignation, as well as start leading your own team to deal with new abnormal forces.[2][3]

During Age of Ultron[]

Taking requests from four agents, Coulson made a photo calendar with Lola, and to complete the collection, he needed a selfie with the Hulk. With the help of an ally, they looked for the perfect spot to take the photo while being attacked by Ultron Sentries. After finally finding the ideal location, the photo was successfully taken.

Coulson gave Fury an old Hellicarrier so he could save all the civilians in Sokovia during the final battle against Ultron.[2]

War with Inhumans[]

After the Ultron's defeat, a group of Inhumans started a war against S.H.I.E.L.D., and this meant that Coulson and his team had to deal with the betrayal of Skye, who joined the Inhumans thanks to her mother, Jiaying. Coulson ended up having a conflict with Mockingbird due to all this confusion, but the two would soon come to an end after Calvin Zabo was captured by Fitz Leo and Eric Koenig.

During an attack by the Inhumans, Coulson helped Fitz subdue Cal Zabo on board the lliad. After restraining Zabo, Coulson manages to convince him that he is not his family's monster, but rather Jiaying, convincing him to join S.H.I.E.L.D.[2] Coulson would later step down as Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. and would go back to being a field Agent.[3]

Kang's Invasion[]

During LEGO Marvel Super Heroes 2, as a result of part of Manhattan being taken into Chronopolis by Kang, the Helicarrier was destroyed. Of the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents inside Chronopolis, Coulson was the highest rank among them. Lacking the training equipment, a literal on-rails shooter training program was developed under Chronopolis on abandoned train tracks originating from the Old West. Coulson assigned Quake to take reference photographs of various locations around Chronopolis. He completed and tested it alongside Quake.[3]
