History

Kingpin founded Pleasant Valley Mental Hospital to imprison potential threats to his illicit empire as well as ordinary mad individuals. Vicky Gibbs was confined to the hospital after attempting to confess over the phone that her husband, Frank Gibbs, worked for Kingpin. Vicky's children, Jacob and Tanya Gibbs, sought help from Peter Parker. Trying to assist them in his Spider-Man identity, he reached the hospital's roof where Frank and his children were intercepted by building guards. One of the guards threw Tanya off the roof, and Spider-Man managed to save her but got shot in an alley.[2]

Hospital staff discovered Spider-Man, they brought him inside the building to the Mad Dog Ward, they sedated him, removed his costume, and assigned him the number MD 336. While fully sedated, Peter met the rest of the Mad Dogs, including Captain Zero, a Mad Dog with the spirit of a hero. Peter asked Mary, a hospital staff member, for help in talking to Vicky Gibbs, but he fell asleep before being able to speak to her. Fed up with the treatment of Mad Dogs in the facility, Peter sparked a rebellion that ended with him and the other Mad Dogs being sedated and interrogated. Meanwhile, in another part of the mental hospital, Doctor Hope was experimenting with the Patient MD 2020, codenamed Brainstorm, to turn him into an assassin.[3]

Captain Zero was deceitfully taken for a lobotomy, prompting Peter to ask Mary to stop administering drugs to the inmates. This caused chaos, allowing Peter to regain his costume and escape the hospital with Zero and Vicky. However, during their escape, they had to confront Brainstorm. Peter defeated him, Frank Gibbs infiltrated the hospital to stop Dr. Hope and save his wife. Peter, Frank, Vicky, Zero, and Hope left the place. Later on, Kingpin closed Pleasant Valley Mental Hospital, expressing that he had supposedly initiated an investigation and discovered that Hope was responsible for everything, absolving himself of any responsibility.[1]
