500,000 years ago, after the fall of Titanos, the first city and original capital of the Eternals, Olympia and Polaria began a long struggle to become the new capital of Eternal society. This has contributed to the fact that the inhabitants of these cities don't like each other. Attempts that have been made to bring the two great Eternal cities closer together, often by exchanging individuals, have mostly led to an avoidance of open war.
Recently, the entire population of Polaria was resurrected after they, like almost all of the Eternals on Earth, had either killed each other or themselves. Soon afterwards, Thanos travelled to Polaria where he killed sixteen of the twenty-three residents, including Supreme Leader Valkin, the High Command and all of the tech staff, making Druig the ruler of Polaria. After Thena and Kingo Sunen arrived to investigate, Thanos struck again, killing Akpaxa and trying to kill Druig before being forced to flee. However, once Thena and Kingo had left, Thanos returned in response to an offer of an alliance that Druig had secretly made to him.
- Valkin (Supreme Leader)
- Betilakk the Interloper
- Soule the Charred
- Queen Tabtee
- Jack Kirby identified the Polar Eternals as being a distinct group within the Eternal race in Eternals #11 and the writers of various issues of Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe Vol 1 established that they lived in a city called "Polaria" in Siberia. However, the city itself first appeared in the story in Eternals (Vol. 5) #3 by Kieron Gillen and Esad Ribić.
- Why Polaria is known as the Second City of the Eternals is unclear. Polaria may have been the second city (after Titanos) to have ever been built by Eternals or it may be second in importance to Olympia.
- According to Ajak's entry in Official Handbook of the Marvel Universe #1, Polaria was supposedly located in the northern Ural Mountains. However, the map in Eternals (Vol. 5) #1 indicated that Polaria was significantly eastward of that mountain range.
- The Pyramid of the Winds is located in the far north, within the realm of the Polar Eternals, and it has been shown to be relatively close to the shore of the Arctic Ocean. However, its distance from Polaria has never been established.
