History
The power asteroid was a satellite the size of Manhattan[1] that originally orbited around the planet Tarnax IV, then the Skrull throneworld.[2] It transmitted power from the Andromeda galaxy to Earth, a distance of more than 2.5 million light-years, with pinpoint accuracy.[3] [4]
The power asteroid's original and primary purpose was to broadcast a massive amount of energy across intergalactic space to the first Super-Skrull, energy that was needed to empower his artificial abilities that duplicated the natural powers of the enemies he had been sent to destroy, the Fantastic Four.[5][2] A secondary function was to charge Power Stones, high-energy capacitor crystals that the Skrulls used like super-powerful batteries.[4]
Eventually, one of the Skrull Empire's greatest scientists, Myrn, was placed in charge of the Power Asteroid and was still there when Galactus consumed Throneworld. Witnessing the death of an entire planet was more than Myrn's mind could bear and he became fixated on the idea of creating an ultimate weapon that could bring universal change overnight. With help from an old friend, Zabyk, Myrn was able to alter the mechanisms of the power station so as to turn it into a weapon he called the Hyperwave Bomb. Once activated, the "bomb" generated an energy wave-front that was broadcast through both space and sub-space, enabling it to instantaneously reach every Skrull in existence. This hyperwave bombardment, specifically designed to penetrate to the core of the unstable molecular structures of all Skrulls and stabilize their Deviant genetic codes, negated their shape-changing abilities and trapped them in whatever forms they had been in when the bomb went off.[4]See Also
