Synopsis for "I Am the Reaper"
The Reaper watches a news report about a boy who has taken refuge in Otis Jeaver's Church after the death of a policeman named Norman Riggs. At the church, Power Man speaks with Rafael Scarfe about the situation when he is called into the church by Otis Jeaver, the church's reverend.
Back at the Reaper's workshop, his wife walks in on him wearing his Reaper costume and runs away. She goes to the offices of Heroes for Hire, Incorporated where she seeks the help of Iron Fist and tells the story of her husband's troubled past in which he was stuck on a S.W.A.T. assignment when a fire broke out at home, severely scarring her and killing their son Andy. Dawson suffered a psychotic break afterwards and became the Reaper. She also tells Iron Fist that the officer killed by the boy was her husband's former partner and that's why he's reverting to his dangerous ways.
At the church, the boy tells the reverend and Power Man that the incident that resulted in Riggs's death was an accident and that he fell on the subway tracks and was struck by a train when the boy was fleeing after he stole a television and Riggs lost his balance when the boy jumped at him. Power Man is angry at the boy but the reverend insists he must help the troubled youth.
Iron Fist goes to the Reaper's workshop and is immediately sprayed by a gas that blinds him by the Reaper. He tries to use his highly tuned senses to avoid the Reaper's further attacks but Reaper manages to knock Iron Fist out, tying him up and leaving him hanging in the workshop. He later manages to free himself and leaves the workshop after the Reaper has left for the church.
At the church, the boy turns on the TV in order to watch a news report of him being previously interviewed on the street but is upset when the report is interrupted to discuss the current incident at the church. Afterwards, the Reaper arrives at the church and gets into an encounter with Power Man. He shoots a burst of flame at Power Man from one of his guns and the church ignites. Additional damage is done to the church's structure when he lobs a grenade which forces Power Man to hold up a crumbling pillar.
The Reaper approaches the boy and upon seeing him is instantly reminded of his own son, snapping him out of his psychosis. Iron Fist arrives and rescues the Reaper and the boy from the burning church while Power Man continues to hold the pillar. The church finally collapses with Power Man and the reverend still inside but they both emerge from the rubble thanks to Power Man having covered the reverend's body with his own in time.
