History

The Protector was a robotic guardian of the Black Stars, entrusted to make sure the Caretakers remained subdued. It was destroyed by Thor and Avalon. When those to led a rebellion of Caretakers and Rigellian mutants, the Masters of the Black Stars sent a whole army of Protectors against them.
