This is a title given to those who work for Eon and later Epoch. They usually get the Quantum Bands to help with the task, but there are cases when there are two Protectors of the Universe, so only one gets them.
Those to have held the title include:

- Photon (Genis-Vell) aka Captain Marvel
- Quasar (Phyla-Vell)
- Stygian Starbender
- Ree
- Tranta
- Past Protectors also include a Shi'ar, Elan, and many others
- Firelord, a future version of the Firelord in the Guardians of the Galaxy Universe Earth-691.
- The Keeper, a future version of the Silver Surfer (Norrin Radd) in the Guardians of the Galaxy Universe Earth-691.
Gravity was also offered the role of Protector of the Universe by Epoch, without the Quantum Bands, but turned it down.
