History
Nazi spies who have posed as the Purple Terror.
The Purple Terror was not one man, but many Nazi spies who were active in the Midwestern United States in 1943. Appearing in the homes of average Americans, they would demand for the peoples' departure from town and use an acidic gas to ruin their furniture and other possessions. The leader of this crew was also doubling as the police chief and recommended that people leave town after the attacks until things settled down.
Their plot was to drive Americans out of small towns away from farming work and into major cities where they hoped would cause overpopulation, gross unemployment, and more panic during attacks on major cities.
When the story hit the national newspapers, the Human Torch and Toro decided to investigate the Purple Terror.
When the heroes arrived, the spies sent one of their agents to appear before them as the Purple Terror. His orders were to allow himself to get captured and lead the two heroes to their secret base where they were led into a room lined with asbestos on a granite floor. The two heroes broke free from their trapping and rounded up the spies and turned them over to the authorities.[1]
To date, nobody has assumed the guise of the Purple Terror since.
