History
Its existence largely unknown to the general populace, Qilin Island is an island in the East China Sea hidden from view by powerful magic. At the very center of Qilin Island is an ancient stone gateway (paifang) which has been at that location longer than the island itself and serves as an interdimensional nexus point connecting the Earth realm with the dimension of Ta-Lo, home of the Xian (the Chinese gods).[1]
Long ago, the Xian empowered a community of mortals who lived in Ta-Lo to serve as the guardians of the Qilin Island gateway to Ta-Lo. These mortals, who came to be known as the Qilin Riders, maintain an outpost on Qilin Island to protect the gateway.[1]Points of Interest

Additional interdimensional nexuses connecting Earth and Ta-Lo exist at each of China's Five Great Mountains: Hua Shan in the West, Tai Shan in the East, Nan Heng Shan in the South, Bei Heng Shan in the North, and Song Shan in the center.[2]
